It's THAT time of year again.
We don’t mean just guessing what your second cousin, twice removed might like as a gift.
The omnipresence of holiday music. It seems you can’t switch the dial or walk into a store this time of year without being bombarded by the dulcet tones of Andy Williams or Dean Martin.
Which got us thinking...
What is the best holiday song out there?
To dissect this burning question and have a little bit of fun, we turned to the experts - specifically, the Klipsch staff.
We spend a fair amount of time listening to music from all genres around here, including those holiday favorites some people love...or love to hate, depending on who you ask.
What We Picked:
Becky Duke, AM Receptionist
Elmo and Patsy - “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer”
“It’s light-hearted and funny!”
Christine Williams, Graphic Designer
The Vandals “Oi to the World”
“I love it because it's about seeing past differences and making peace. All my favorite holiday songs are odd covers, because the traditional carols, religious hymns, and a lot of pop versions drive me nuts!”
Mark Hittle, Midwest Sales Rep
The Jimmy Buffett Christmas album in its entirety
“The weather is warm and the party never ends. Winters in the midwest are cold, dark, and depressing. Winters in Key West are the exact opposite!”
"The Vandals' 'Oi to the World.' I love it because it's about seeing past differences and making peace. All my favorite holiday songs are odd covers, because the traditional carols, religious hymns, and a lot of pop versions drive me nuts!”Christine Williams, Graphic Designer
A Few More Holiday Hits:
Jason Crouch, Coordinator of Technical Information
RUN DMC - “Christmas In Hollis”
“Growing up, all I ever heard was your traditional Christmas songs. Which is fine, but they didn't really feel like they spoke to my generation. Then RUN D.M.C. put out “Christmas in Hollis.” It was fun, upbeat and spoke to a new generation of youth.”
Vlad Grodzinskiy, Senior Manager of Product Development
Frank Sinatra - “White Christmas”
“It's really the only song that brings out nostalgia for me personally. My family grew up without Christmas in the Soviet Union. So, getting everyone to agree to some music in America was always difficult. The single unanimous agreement was that Frank Sinatra can play throughout the house, regardless of the season.”
Jay Meissner, Senior Model Maker
Elvis Presley - “Blue Christmas”
“I grew up in an Elvis household. They don't call him ‘The King’ for no reason.”
Tony Scott, Helpdesk Tech Support
Bobby Helms - “Jingle Bell Rock”
“As soon as it comes on, the guitar starts, and the jingle bells jingle, I just perk up and start humming and singing! Love it!”
"Elvis Presley's 'Blue Christmas.' I grew up in an Elvis household. They don't call him 'The King' for no reason."Jay Meissner, Senior Model Maker
Jeremy McWilliams, Manager of Product Support
Jose Feliciano - “Feliz Navidad”
“I love the campy 70's music and the upbeat tempo. Also, it says, in a heartfelt way, what I want to express to everyone at Christmas!”
Austin Chen, Electronics Development Engineer
Nat King Cole - “The Christmas Song”
“It's slow and soulful, but not quite sad, making it really unlike any other carol or song. Those first two notes get me every time!”
Travis Turner, Director of Global Customer Care
“It reminds me of being a kid and spending time with family. My daughters also love singing it, so it always makes me smile.”
Tom, The Shipping Guy
Two-Way Tie: The Waitresses’ - “Christmas Wrapping” and XTC - “Thanks For Christmas”
“They are not Mariah Carey. Enough said.”
Devon Dean, Digital Marketing Coordinator
The Waitresses - “Christmas Wrapping”
“Fewer holiday songs are more delightful than the Waitresses’ “Christmas Wrapping.” A seminal 80s classic, the song tells the tale of a girl who is just exhausted by the season and all of the faux merriment it can sometimes entail. Haven’t we all felt this way at least once?”
Andre LaRouche, Director of Program Management“Baby, It's Cold Outside” - Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschanel
“She has an amazing voice and the back and forth between her character and Elf is priceless.”
Jeff Ross, Engineering Technician Acoustics
“It's not really a single song, but an entire experience. It's the Brian Setzer Orchestra ‘Christmas Rocks Live’ for me !!! It's got it all. The Holiday Classics, Rockabilly, Big Band and Rock-n-Roll wrapped up all in one place!”
